The heavy rain that is falling across most of the state today has connections all the way in the Pacific Ocean. The atmosphere over Florida was full of moisture that would more resemble a summertime afternoon. The jet stream, a river of air at flight level that steers storm systems, was aligned in such a way to pull moisture all the way across Mexico from the Pacific Ocean in to the Southeast U.S. Moisture from the Gulf of Mexico has also moved in, contributing to the efficient rainfall rates and heavier thunderstorms.
