Winter’s coldest may be behind us, but don’t put away the coats just yet. The average date of the last freeze in Gainesville is not until February 24. While we won’t be as warm as the beginning of the month, temperatures over the next ten days will be slowly returning to normal. Outside of a rain chance late Monday or Tuesday, it will also be rather uneventful and dry through the 21st.
Friday will be the warmest day since February 4. Afternoon highs are expected to reach the lower 70’s. A weak cold front will bring an end to that over the weekend, nudging the numbers back below normal. This cold snap will be brief, however, as warmer air surges back Monday ahead of an approaching front. Moisture will be sufficient for rain with this front late Monday, likely clearing the area sometime Tuesday. Thereafter, a prolonged stretch of dry and comfortable weather is expected through the end of next week, as a ridge of high pressure becomes established over Florida.
