Our first taste of winter is on the way tonight.
The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a Freeze Warning for nearly all inland areas from 3 to 8 AM. Residents are urged to bring pets indoors and cover sensitive plants.
Lows could fall as low as the upper 20s near the I-10 corridor and in outlying areas of Alachua County. Even locations further south, such as in Marion County, may briefly dip below freezing. Factor in a light northerly breeze, and wind chills in the middle and upper 20s are possible for early commuters Monday morning.
Tonight will be the first freeze for most areas since February 28th. The average date of first freeze for Gainesville is December 2nd.
